Brief History About The Ford Thunderbird:
The newly revised fourth generation Thunderbird hit the streets in 1964 showcasing crisper body lines, squaring off at the fenders at the front and rear. It maintained the quad headlights and wheelbase of the previous design with similar grill and bumpers. The popular sequential rear turn signals were incorporated in 1965 which illuminated three individual sections towards the direction you were turning, made even more famous as an attribute on Carol Shelby's GT Mustangs. Also new for 1965 were standard power front disc brakes aiding in superior stopping power. The 390ci V8 remained the standard powerplant for all Thunderbirds making 300 horsepower paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. The end was coming near for a Thunderbird in convertible form with 1966 being the final chance to order one. This may have come from the success of the sensational new sporty Mustang hitting showrooms in 1965. This meant only 6,846 Thunderbird Convertibles would find garages in 1965, making them exceedingly hard to acquire today!

These new owners found the car to be outstanding driving condition, just needing a freshening of the now 14-year-old restored car. They would contribute much to bring the car back to a show level appearance as they attended regular car gatherings during the driving season. This began with pulling the engine for a complete detailing. While out, it would receive new main and rod bearings, new water pump, starter, fuel pump, alternator, belts/hoses, motor mounts, rebuilt power steering unit, all new gaskets, rebuilt carburetor, plugs, wires, etc. along with new engine paint and factory presentation stickers. They would also have the transmission resealed, new brake master cylinder & booster installed, wheel bearings, new front and rear shocks, new exhaust, u-joints, and more! They even installed new interior carpet and front bucket seat upholstery.
They would sell it with approximately 92,000 miles on the odometer to its most recent owner of 14 years in April 2007. This Godfrey, IL engineer would continue this outstanding tradition of meticulous care with as-needed maintenance while adding some 13,000 miles to this fabulous T-Bird during the summer show season. His major contributions would be new Cooper Trendsetter SE 215/75R15 whitewall tires in March 2021, fresh battery & rebuilt carburetor in 2018; new rear shocks, springs, axle pads, shackles & bushings along with re-chromed front bumper in 2017; new water pump, starter, thermostat, fuel sending unit, and exhaust mufflers in 2016. The convertible top was replaced by Old Town Upholstery in May 2014. Many small interior parts and detail pieces were exchanged over the years as well, with receipts and spares to go with the car.
It is hard to express the stunning caliber this car continues to possess, and its outstanding operation on all levels! The Thunderbird is finished in a spectacular color combination with a host of factory options, all in full working order right down to the clock!
