The 1965 Corvette continued on the success of the mid-year String Ray with subtle changes. The hood vents were removed, and a trio of fender vents now effectively reduced engine heat, with the standard wheel covers redesigned to accommodate standard 4-wheel disc brakes that improved braking capability & lifespan. Also new for 1965 were integrated door panel armrests, better seats, and redesigned grill. It proved to be a successful year with Chevrolet selling nearly 24,000 examples, but only 1,191 would leave the factory in Tuxedo Black making it the rarest of all production colors! We are very exciting to offer this 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Coupe finished in factory code correct AA- Tuxedo Black over Black Vinyl interior!
This exceptional example is remarkably well equipped fitted with its original, numbers matching HH-coded 327ci V8/365 horsepower engine, 4-speed wide-ratio Muncie transmission, and rare AQ-code 4.56:1 Posi-Traction rear axle ratio. It continues to retain its 100% factory installed drivetrain components! Options included power windows, quick take-off aluminum wheels, BF Goodrich Silvertown 7.75-15 4-ply whitewalls tires, auxiliary hardtop, Comfort & Convenience Group, tinted windshield, AM/FM push button radio with power antenna, off-road exhaust system, and carpeted floor mats. This outstanding, convertible Sting Ray remains 100%factory original without restoration, receiving only regular routine maintenance all its life, and now showcases just 25,636 actual mileage. It retains a remarkable no-hit body, all factory original drivetrain equipment, and has been honored on multiple levels!
Having been sold new from Luby Chevrolet in Denver, Colorado on December 2nd, 1964 to original owner Arthur Hayutin of Littleton, CO and it didn't leave his caring hands until March 1990 having accumulated just 24,057 miles during his 26 years of ownership! Included with the sale will be a signed odometer statement by Mr. Hayutin supporting the odometer has never failed while in his care, along with the factory Protect-O-Plate, are production window sticker, all original manuals including knock-off wheel removal instructions, factory original spare tire, and factory tools! This Sting Ray entered the show seen immediately as one of the most original examples around! It immediately made an impression on NCRS judges in 1990 at the California Wine Country Classic to achieve Top Flight status in September 1990. Later, Bloomington judges were proud to inspect and give this Corvette its Bloomington Gold Certified honors in June 1994, followed by Bloomington Gold Survivor Certificate of Historic Preservation. This is not an easy task to achieve, as the requirements to qualify are stiff. Survivor status comes when a Corvettes historic characteristics have been preserved original for over two decades, survived the perils of abuse, fads, and restorations common to most, and found to be in the best interest of Corvette heritage to remain unrestored. Therefor making an impression to the Bloomington Survivor Director, Bloomington Gold President, and three Survivor judges to sign off on the certificate to be in the best interest of historic research & preservation to remain in its present state as a benchmark of Corvette Restoration. Its quite an honor! It continues to start and run with incredible ease!
Everything remains fully functional right down to the clock. This example is recorded to be one of only 1,191 examples to be ordered in Tuxedo Black, the rarest color available! With virtually all original components, paint, interior, etc. it offers a rare chance for Corvette collectors worldwide! We couldn't more proud to say it remains one of the nicest originals in existence! Please call with questions or schedule a chance to review in person.
