After being absent from the Buick lineup for 33 years, the Roadmaster nameplate would return in 1991 with great success. It would cater to buyers who insisted on a rear-wheel-drive platform, available 8-passenger seating, and a multitude of luxury appointments. General Motors would make this the largest Buick available based on the B-platform chassis sharing its body shape with the Chevrolet Caprice and Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser. Their flagship luxury Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon would have a host of available options and accessories, with production improvements over its short 6-year run. Highlighting some of these advancements included dual airbags and electronically controlled overdrive transmissions in 1994, not to mention a Corvette- inspired LT1 5.7L V8 engine! By 1996, the LT1 sequential port injection engine added OBD-II compliance components making them even more efficient. These final year Roadmaster Limited Estate Wagons built from the Arlington, TX plant would cease production in 1996, with only 8,962 units built, each with a special Collector's Edition hood ornament to commemorate their special contribution to automotive history.
Offered here is fully loaded 1996 Buick Roadmaster Limited Estate Wagon finished in Arctic White over Light Beige Leather interior. Having only 3 careful owners from new, this special Collector's Edition shows only 38,250 actual miles on the odometer! It has every single available option from the factory and continues to perform wonderfully! Features and equipment include LT1 350ci V8, 4L60E 4-speed overdrive transmission, automatic climate control, Concert Sound II AM/FM/Cassette Stereo with power antenna, power windows, power 6-way adjustable seats with 2-way lumbar support & heat, automatic power locks, Electrochromic rearview mirror with dual reading lamps, dual illuminated visor vanity mirrors, power adjustable outside mirrors, Vista Roof skylight with retractable sunshades, roof rack, 3rd row jump seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls; Trailer Tow Package adding a 2.93:1 Limited-slip Posi-traction axle with Dynaride automatic leveling suspension with air shocks, heavy duty engine & transmission coolers, and upgraded front & rear sway bars; Twilight Sentinel automatic headlamps, keyless remote entry, carpeted floor mats, and more!
Once inside the car, it is easy to see why these turnpike cruisers were easy to enjoy! They invite driver comforts that encourage long drives across the country! With power lumbar support, heated leather seats, cruise control, tilt steering column, performance enhanced audio system, accessory cup holders, and armrest with storage, you really had all you needed! Plenty of power was provided with 260 horsepower and 330 lb. ft. or torque, and it was rated up to 7,000 pounds of towing capacity with the trailer provisions. It was Buick's premier vehicle that still delivers timeless style and incredible driving standards not easily found in today's collector car market!
Our Roadmaster Estate offered here was sold new to its original owner in June 1996 who maintained possession through May 2000 adding 28,836 miles, before it sold to its new caretaker of 23 years. It would only be driven sparingly each year, with meticulous annual servicing and oil changes, and garaged when not in use. After his passing in the summer of 2023, the car would sell from his estate briefly finding its third owner for mild reconditioning before coming to the St. Louis Car Museum showroom. Recent contributions to the car over the past year included new battery, whitewall tires, engine oil with filter, belt tensioner & idler pulley, new drive belts, new water pump & gasket, thermostat, Optispark distributor kit, new fuel pressure regulator, along with fresh wiper blades front and rear. It starts, runs, and drives with perfect ease! Included with the sale will be 2 keys, 2 remote fobs, original owner's manual, and GM service manual. It should easily impress the next lucky owner with years of enjoyment! Hard to find like this one!
